With the vSAN 7.0 Update 2 annnouncement, and availability, a series of videos has been published, and here is a list of the videos I’ve found so far.
VMware has just announced the general availability of the new vSphere 7.0 Update 2 release, which offers a bunch of new features and improvements. This includes both new load balancer options for Tanzu, as well as greatly improved security through encryption, better lifecycle management and improvements on vMotion speeds in high bandwidth networks.

On the 23rd of February 2021 VMware issued the VMSA-2021-0002 security advisory and one of the issues it addresses is VMware vCenter Server updates address remote code execution vulnerability in the vSphere Client (CVE-2021-21972). This is a critical issue, and if left unpatched could land your vSphere estate in big trouble as there is already Proof-of-Concepts available for this vulnerability. So get patching as soon as possible! Of course, this can only be exploited if you have access to the VMware vCenter Client, so if the managment plane is isolated that helps mitigate the risk.
VMware has just announced the list of vExperts for 2021 and true to tradition here is a list of the Norwegian vExperts for 2021. This year there is a total of 13 Norwegian vExperts, one more than in 2020.
If you want to be included in this list when it opens up again in June 2021, it’s time to start plannning. As a vExpert Pro I’m happy to assist anyone who wants help applying!
In case you weren’t aware, applications for VMware vExpert 2021 is now open. See the official announcement for details. The applications are open until January 9th 2021, and the announcement of the class of 2021 is scheduled for February 19th 2021.
Photon OS is VMware’s minimal Linux distribution, and in a small project in the lab I thought I should use it for some small lightweight Veeam Backup & Replication v10 Linux proxies. After deploying it, and converting it to a template, I ran into some very frustrating authentication issues after deployment. To make a very long troubleshooting story short, I forgot to ensure that a new unique machine-id was created, wrecking havoc with, amongst other things, the DHCP server assignments.

Since the world is pretty much in lockdown, and VMworld is a virtual only conference this year, the vTrailmap 2020 has been transformed into an online resource and experience! In short, vTrail Map is a community guide for the virtualization community. As I’m lucky enough to be a vTrail Map Champion for VMworld 2020, it’s really fun to announce that the first virtual vTrail Map is now live!
