The keynotes at VMworld Europe are always interesting, mostly because one always wonders what was left to announce from the US equivalent that is earlier in the year. This year there was a good gap between the US version in August, and the European one in November, unlike last year when it was only a couple of weeks, so my hope was that there would be some real new news and announcements in Barcelona.

Day zero started of with the Nordic & Baltic VMware Partner Briefing Brunch at the Hotel W. The parter briefing contained updates on the way forward for VMware Partner Central as well as upcoming updates to the partner model, something I look forward too. In my opinion, and thankfully VMware’s too, Partner Central is way overdue a major overhaul, so this is good news!

vSphere VCSA 6.5 Update 2 to 6.7 Update 1 Upgrade Issues

Now that vSphere 6.7 Update 1 has been released, I jumped at upgrading one of my lab environments from 6.5 Update 2 (which was not a supported upgrade path until 6.7 Update 1), and I pretty much immediately ran into issues.

VMware has opened the session builder for VMworld Europe 2018, and quite a few sessions are already fullly booked. Don’t despair though if you session is full, there is still a chance that some sessions will get additional slots, as well as the possibility for walk-ins at the time of the sessions. Odds are that quite a few people who have scheduled a given session doesn’t show up and that will open up slots for those waiting at the door.

VMware Cloud on AWS (vSAN) utilizing Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS) is an interesting one. Being able to independently increment storage in the VMC without adding compute nodes is a feature that has been missing, until now.

VMworld 2018 US is upon is, and as per usual this means a lot of new announcements. One of them is vSAN 6.7u1 which comes with a bunch of new and useful features. This release mainly focuses on improved operations and maintenance, with a bunch of nice new additions.
